A fun, energetic speaker for Jesus Christ!
I often read postings on Facebook where people write things such as, “Don’t change so people will like you. Be yourself and the right people will like you.” It is a lie! The right people might be waiting for you to stop being selfish.
The good old “be yourself” line. What does that mean anyway? Don’t you wish some people would NOT be themselves?
Perhaps you are too negative, or needy, or you complain too much, or you are in everyone’s business, or you don’t listen well, or you have bad breath, or you are a close talker, or you talk badly about others, or you really do need to work out (um, no, that one is not for me at all. OK! Yes, yes, it is) or you don’t do anything to help anyone else? What do you need to change? Because I guarantee it is something! You are not perfect! Maybe that is what you need to change. Thinking you are perfect.
Sure, you are a great person. Sure, you have friends and family who love you. But, you still need to change.
What if every person continually tried to improve? What if every person really thought hard about who they are? What if everyone thought about how they treated people? Wouldn’t it be a better place?
I’m not saying you have to continually change yourself for others. That would be exhausting! Plus, you can’t please everyone. But, there is something you need to change.
One time I got a call from an old friend who said, “You are really negative.” I was shocked because people had always told me how positive I was my whole life. I hung up the phone and instead of being upset and in denial, I took a hard look at myself. My friend was right! I was complaining a lot about silly things and I really didn’t have much nice to say. So I changed! Not for my friend, but for me. I became happier and it was worth it.
Since then I keep changing all the time. I want to be closer to God, I want to be healthier, I want to treat others well, I want to achieve goals. In order for good things to keep coming my way I have to continually take stock and keep on changing!
