Live Out Loud Ministries

A fun, energetic speaker for Jesus Christ!

Shhhhh! She is a Christian.

Several years ago a friend of mine (Dani) got married on Long Island so I went with another friend, Kari, to the wedding. Oh my gosh! It was so much fun. After dinner a bunch of people started dancing and Kari and I were two of them. We were mostly just dancing in a big group with a couple of couples as well. We were having a crazy good time and laughing so hard. I even did a dancing and singing duet with one of the other guests. I’ve heard there is a video of it but haven’t had the courage to actually watch it.

We were having such a great time until someone asked me what I did. At the time I was a Director of Children’s Ministry so that is what I told them. It was like the music stopped. Everyone stopped dancing and having fun and looked at me and said things like, “I go to church.” The party was over. They simply couldn’t have fun with someone like me. They continued to ask my friend Dani about me long after the party so I know it isn’t that they began hating me. It is just that they thought of me in a new light and couldn’t just have fun now.

The other day I went to a wedding shower and when I was leaving a man (the men came back) said, “So now that she’s leaving we can say what we want.” It sounded like a joke, but I think he was told about me so he thought watching his words would be best.

When I first believed in Christ as my Savior a lot of people treated me differently and said that I had changed. It was true, but I was still the fun Susan they all knew and still enjoyed joking around, playing games and even dancing! But my focus had changed and I was on fire for the one who saved me.

When you are a believer in Christ, you are different. No, people don’t need to stop having fun around you but you are different. We are called to be different. “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things have passed away; behold, new things have come.” 2 Cor 5:17

We should not want to do all the same things we used to do before we became believers. Although I am the first to admit that there are times you can’t tell me from a non-believer because of my sin. I still do get tempted and don’t always resist. The difference is that I am not content to stay where I am and want to repent before God when I sin. Also, there are a lot of things that I simply am not interested in anymore. It isn’t that I am saying, “You are no fun God! I want to do these things!” I actually want to live differently.

And, the truth is, if someone doesn’t live differently after they become saved, they aren’t saved.

Does this mean we are better than the unsaved? No! We are fallible people too; it is just that we are forgiven and have a present and future with Christ. People will think we think we are better because we won’t do what they are doing. But, for me, I know I am not any better than anyone else.

Although I wish sometimes that people could just relax around me, I think I will just embrace that people see me differently. It is worth it because I wouldn’t give up this party with Christ for anything!

Years ago I was a blue print boy. I was about 22 years old.

There was an electrical engineer who would come into my office and ask me to run his prints. He always used very fowl language.

One day he came into my office and was using many very vulgar words and I decided to speak up. I told him that he needed God in his life and that he needed to go to Church. He looked at me as if I had stolen something from him or insulted him in a bad way. I remember thinking that I might lose my job over it, but I didn’t care. I was in Church 3 times a week and God had really improved my life and made me much happier and I wanted him to experience the same thing.

I was running blue prints one morning, and I was whistling “Jesus Loves Me”.

I heard a voice behind me say that was his favorite song. I turned around and it was the electrical engineer who was very crude and vulgar in his speech.

I was so shocked to hear him say something like that, that he must have seen the surprise on my face. He started laughing and he said “Dale, after you said what you said to me last week I started doing some thinking. I talked to my wife and we decided to get Baptized and saved and to start going to Church.” He talked about how much better they felt now about life and how much happier they were.

Susan, continue to be a light. You never know who you might touch.

I really like this! I lost a lot of friends a couple of years ago when i became a Christ Follower, but I would not change the life that I have now for anything in the world! The parties I have with Christ are so much better than the ones I had without him.

It is so true! Many people think that following Christ is boring and about rules, rules, rules. Boy, are they wrong! ๐Ÿ™‚
